History

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL.

Rusinga Girls High School is a county girls’ school founded in 2014 through a strong community initiative led by the late Councilor Kepha Ouma Onyango. The dream of establishing the school began with a Harambee drive initiated by the late Senator Gerald Otieno Kajwang’, whose vision was to ensure that every girl in Rusinga Island had access to quality secondary education close to home. The leadership mantle was later taken up by Hon. Milly Odhiambo Mabona, Member of Parliament for Suba North, who, together with the local community, has continued to champion the school’s growth and development. Rusinga Girls High School was established to address a critical need providing a nearby and safe learning environment for girls who previously had to walk over 7.5 kilometers to the next nearest school. It also offers an alternative boarding option within Rusinga Island, which at the time had only one girls’ boarding school. The school’s infrastructure has been made possible through the dedicated partnership between the local community, the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), and the NGO One Kid One World. Rusinga Girls High School is proudly sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church and continues to grow in academic excellence, spiritual development, and community service nurturing confident, disciplined, and empowered young women ready to shape the future.
